Women’s Self Defence

Learn how to assert yourself at AJS Self Defence!

Our women’s self defence program was designed by women who are black belts and is taught by senior-ranking martial artists who are women.

What you will learn:

  • Easy to remember, practical self defence techniques
  • The freeze response and grounding techniques
  • Using your voice and asserting “no”
  • Handling intrusive questions and unwanted comments
  • Setting and enforcing boundaries
  • Types of abuse
  • Online safety
  • And more!

Our program has been built on the current sociological data so that it reflects reality. Sure, we address the stereotypical creep in the car park at night scenario, however that is only a tiny part of what we cover. 87% of men’s attacks on women are committed by a man the woman knows (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2023); accordingly, our program reflects this.

Our lovely instructors create a safe and nurturing environment for this 8 week program. Not only will you have fun but you will come out the other side feeling more confident and assertive, making this program also ideal for learning how to deal with bullies.

Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in such as workout wear, trackies etc. We will train barefoot on our martial arts mats. Please also bring a small towel and a drink bottle. Participants only – strictly no spectators.

Some of our previous participants enjoyed the course so much that they decided to join our weekly Women’s Hapkido classes to continue their journey.

IMPORTANT: This program has mature content discussing real life situations which includes types of abuse and sexual assault. Some participants may have confronting experiences that they may discuss. Accordingly, strictly no primary school age children can enrol. Any teenagers enrolled must have their parent or legal guardian sign their enrolment form prior to commencing AND have a guardian who is a woman (e.g. mother) enrol in the course with them.
